Irrfan Khan‘s son Babil Khan who was last seen in ‘Qala‘ and ‘The Railway Men’ is getting a lot of love from the industry and the audience. However, the young actor is under immense pressure to live up to his father, the late Irrfan’s legacy. His mother and Irrfan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar opened up about it in an interview recently. She revealed that Babil isn’t just upset about losing his father but is also worried about living up to the expectations of people. Sutapa gave example of Abhishek Bachchan, stating that he’s really a good actor but comparisons with Amitabh Bachchan come in the way.
She said, as quoted by Hindustan Times, “Babil pe bahut zyada pressure hai aur mujhe yeh thik nahin lagta! This pressure should not be there. Irrfan never had that pressure, and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out. It’s not only about work but also about losing the father figure, almost depression mein hai! Usmein yeh stress and comparisons all the time. As a mother, I feel, ‘Please mere bachche ko chor do’. Also, he is very vulnerable and does not have a fighter’s spirit. His father was very strong and so am I, but genetically kahin se to aaya hoga…”
She further added, “Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk but wahi hai…comparisons with legendary Amitabh Bachchan have worked against him. I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon.”
Interestingly, ‘I Want To Talk’ directed by Shoojit Sircar was written keeping Irrfan in mind. Sircar had admitted that he has Irrfan on his mind when he writes every film. But the actor passed away. Abhishek came on board and got a lot of accolades for his performance with many stating it as his career-best performance.
