An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) delegation led by former CM and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, visited Nehru Vihar on Monday to meet the devastated family of a 9-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered. Delhi State president Saurabh Bharadwaj, MLA Sanjeev Jha, and leader Adil Khan also visited, offering immediate support and vowed to fight for justice alongside the grieving family.
Atishi slammed the BJP administration’s callous response, pointing out that despite this horrific incident shaking Delhi and the entire nation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Rekha Gupta have failed to even visit the victim’s family. The AAP leaders condemned the so-called four-engine BJP government’s inability to protect Delhi’s daughters, exposing the administration’s complete failure on women’s safety despite their tall claims.
After visiting the family of the victim in Nehru Vihar, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP, Atishi, expressed grave concern over the incident. She stated, “A 9-year-old girl was raped and then murdered in Nehru Vihar. This horrific incident has shaken not just Delhi but the conscience of the entire nation. The victim’s family is in a terrible state, and the entire area is gripped with fear. Every household is now anxious about letting their daughters step outside.”
She shared, “We met the family today and assured them that the Aam Aadmi Party will offer every possible support. I demand from the Delhi government that financial aid be given to the victim’s family without delay. We are also seeking time to meet with the Police Commissioner to ensure swift action and that the family receives justice at the earliest. The accused must face the harshest punishment possible.”
Pointing to BJP’s total control over Delhi’s law and order, Atishi stated that at present, Delhi is under a four-engine BJP government—Centre, Delhi’s LG, Police, and now the Delhi CM—all aligned with BJP. Even then, what is BJP actually doing? Why can they not keep our daughters safe?”
She highlighted that during elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is seen in every rally. But when it comes to protecting our girls, Amit Shah is nowhere to be seen. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta is constantly seen at one or the other public programme. But when a girl is raped and murdered, the CM shows no concern.
The Delhi Assembly LoP demanded accountability from BJP for failing Delhi’s women. “On behalf of all daughters in Delhi, I want to tell BJP that ensuring women’s safety is their responsibility. The entire city is now questioning BJP’s complete failure in discharging this responsibility. With the Union Home Minister, CM, LG, and Police Commissioner all under BJP, what are they doing,” she asked.
Atishi stressed that these criminals have no fear of the police. They think they can commit such heinous crimes and walk free. It is crucial to instill fear among such criminals. If they are not given swift and harsh punishment, these crimes will not stop. Amit Shah and Rekha Gupta must answer why they have failed to ensure the safety of Delhi’s women and daughters.
After the visit, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi took to ‘X’ and wrote, “The horrific crime against a 9-year-old girl in Nehru Vihar has shaken every resident of Delhi. Met the grieving family today, offered them solace and assured them that we stand with them in their fight for justice. Directed AAP karyakartas to support the family in every way.”
She added, “The entire locality is gripped with fear—no one is letting their daughters step outside. Despite the enormity of the crime, the Home Minister and the CM have not visited the victim’s family. They simply don’t care about the daughters of Delhi. BJP’s 4-engine government has failed to protect the women and girls of this city.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised CM Rekha Gupta’s silence and absence from ground zero. He stated, “In Nehru Vihar, BJP has elected representatives at every level—councillor, MLA, MP. Shouldn’t CM Rekha Gupta have come here? A few days ago, two children were burnt alive when a fire broke out in Bawana jhuggis. Yet, the CM didn’t visit, even though she was already in Bawana.”
He continued, “Bulldozers are demolishing hundreds of jhuggis, but the CM hasn’t visited any of the victims. Delhi has witnessed three heavy spells of rain this year, resulting in the deaths of nine people, yet the CM hasn’t met a single grieving family nor offered even one rupee in compensation. Is the Chief Minister only there to seek blessings from BJP bigwigs, or does she also have time to serve the people of Delhi?”
Demanding immediate action against the accused, Saurabh Bharadwaj asked that when the identity of the accused is already known and all details are available, then why is there such lethargy? Why hasn’t the accused been arrested yet? We will seek an appointment with the Police Commissioner as well. The government should support every victim. The CM should visit the family—because the greatest support comes when the government stands with the victims. This sends a message to the police that they must speed up the investigation.
Jhuggi residents are looking for BJP MP Manoj Tiwari: Saurabh Bharadwaj
Responding to a question, he stated, “All those jhuggi residents who used to see Manoj Tiwari playing dholak at night are now looking for him. Where is he now when their homes are being demolished? Today, when the common people need him, where are BJP’s seven MPs? AAP is also asking—when a jhuggi is being demolished, why isn’t a house being provided there, as promised?”
