Agra: Police registered cases against 11 alleged quacks in the district for providing medical treatment to patients without degrees or licences.
In raids conducted by the health department over two months, several illegally operated hospitals and clinics were unearthed where medical procedures like deliveries and abortions were also performed. The department issued notices to several individuals to provide proof of being qualified medical practitioners, said chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Arun Srivastava.
Police registered FIRs against 11 people for practicising medicine illegally. The CMO said that reports on the issue are being sent to the administration and the police commissioner.
He said that during the raids, many doctors were found to be absent from duty and licence renewal of many hospitals was found to be pending. Several facilities were served notices requesting degrees of doctors and paramedical staff and NOCs from various departments but these were not furnished, the CMO said, adding preparations are underway for taking action against them.
