In Telangana, the majority of the students who committed suicide after the result announcement were pursuing the science stream and were appearing for their intermediate first-year exams. One particular incident involved a teenage girl from Medak district who failed to clear the chemistry paper for the second time.(TL-MP)
As of now, there has been no official statement from any government official regarding the exact number of reported deaths. However, the police have confirmed that suicide cases among students after the examination results have been reported from various parts of the state, as reported by the Indian Express. The first reported case of student suicide in Telangana this year was a 16-year-old from Tandur in Mancherial district. According to the police, he took his own life after failing to clear the exam in four subjects in the first year.(TL-MP)
Most of the students who tragically ended their lives were between the ages of 16 to 17 and resorted to methods such as hanging, jumping into a community well, or drowning in a pond.(TL-MP)
In Madhya Pradesh, two students who attempted suicide after the result announcement had failed in mathematics. Additionally, two more students who made suicide attempts are currently on ventilators.
The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) released the results for class 11th and 12th on April 24th. According to the data released, there has been a slight decrease in the overall pass percentage for the first year compared to the previous year’s performance. In 2023, the pass percentage for Inter 1st year was 63.85%, which dropped to 61.06% in 2024.
