New Delhi: The Centre has ordered the transfer of five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from Delhi, ahead of the assembly elections slated for early next year.
The move comes on the heels of a major reshuffle of over three dozen assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), station house officers (SHOs) and inspector-level officers in the city.
Among the key transfers, Manishi Chandra, officer on special duty (OSD) to Delhi Police commissioner Sanjay Arora, has been posted to Mizoram. However, his order is likely to be cancelled, or he may not be relieved immediately and continue till the elections, according to sources. “The police chief’s office may request MHA to keep his order in abeyance for now,” said a senior cop.
Others named in the rejig include B L Suresh, a 2001-batch IPS officer who has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh; and Rajneesh Garg, a 2002-batch IPS officer who has been shifted to Ladakh. The Dec 10 order also includes Dr G Ram Gopal Naik, a 2002-batch IPS officer who has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh; and Hareesh H P, a 2003-batch IPS officer who has been moved to Jammu and Kashmir.
The SHOs of key police stations have been transferred to new locations. While Patel Nagar’s SHO has been transferred to Kapashera, Tughlaq Road’s SHO has been shifted to New Delhi district. Other transfers of SHOs include from C R Park to Lahori Gate, Vasant Kunj (north) to Kanjhawala, Mayur Vihar to East district, Lahori Gate to Shakarpur, and Harsh Vihar to IP Estate police station. Additionally, several other stations have been reshuffled.
Furthermore, the ACPs of Rajouri Garden have been transferred to Karol Bagh while CR Park’s ACP has been moved to Rajouri Garden. ACPs have also been transferred from Rajouri Garden, New Friends Colony, Seelampur, Bhajanpura, Model Town, Prashant Vihar and Aman Vihar.
The transfers come at a time when political parties like AAP have criticised BJP-led central govt over the “deteriorating” law and order, which is managed by the Union home ministry.
