Despite BJP’s tall claims, it took 11 days and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s relentless pressure to move ₹820 crore just 3 km from the Delhi Secretariat to the Civic Centre. As Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) salaries finally begin rolling out, senior AAP leader and MCD House LoP, Ankush Narang, declared it a victory for constructive opposition and a slap on the face of a sleeping government.
Congratulating MCD employees on receiving their pending salaries, senior AAP leader and MCD House LoP, Ankush Narang, said the role of the Opposition is to awaken a sleeping government—and in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party has fulfilled that role in the MCD. “We took on the responsibility of waking up Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, and the entire BJP machinery from their slumber. The ₹820 crore released by the Delhi government is not a favour—it is the rightful due of MCD employees. The Aam Aadmi Party fought for these employees and succeeded in getting their salaries released. Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, our party will continue to fight for the rights of MCD employees and the people of Delhi.”
Pointing to the prolonged salary delays, Ankush Narang said the Aam Aadmi Party had been persistently raising the issue for the past several days. “Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had ensured that news of the ₹820 crore release was splashed across every newspaper, but that amount couldn’t even make it to the Civic Centre—just three kilometres from the Delhi Secretariat. As a result, Group A, B and C MCD employees continued to face delays in their salaries. The Aam Aadmi Party raised this issue consistently and kept the public informed through press conferences.”
Sharing the latest update, he said, “According to available information, after continuous struggle by AAP, ₹820 crore sent by the Delhi government has finally been deposited in MCD’s account on Tuesday morning. Now the salaries for Group A, B and C employees will be released. Congratulations to all MCD workers, Opposition leaders, and fellow councillors on this victory. AAP will continue its fight—from the streets to the House—and will keep forcing the ruling party to stay alert. This is the true role of a responsible and constructive Opposition: to hold the government accountable on public welfare issues.”
Underlining AAP’s commitment, the MCD House LoP said the party would continue working in the MCD under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal. “We will keep disturbing the ruling party’s comfort and shaking them awake on public issues. According to sources, the first instalment of ₹820 crore has been received by the MCD, and once the salary is released, employees will start receiving the benefit.”
Calling the release of funds a direct result of AAP’s sustained campaign, Ankush Narang added, “This is a win for constructive opposition. The Aam Aadmi Party fulfilled its duty by raising this issue and ensuring the first instalment of ₹820 crore was secured for the MCD. Congratulations to all employees, the public, and fellow opposition leaders on this achievement. AAP will continue to fight for public interest in the future as well. This is the power of unity and constructive opposition.”
