Aam Aadmi Party MPs staged a protest in the Parliament complex on Wednesday, criticising the Modi government’s silence over the deportation of Indian nationals in chains by the US. Holding banners with slogans denouncing the government’s inaction, the MPs demanded a response from the Prime Minister.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticised the incident, stating that the US treated citizens of the world’s largest democracy like slaves, bringing them to Amritsar Airport in chains, while Nepalese deportees were sent back with dignity. “Despite such a grave humiliation, PM Modi has not uttered a word against the US, bringing shame to India’s honour,” he stressed.
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP stated that the citizens of India, the world’s largest democracy, were brought to Amritsar Airport in Punjab in chains by the US. He said that America humiliated Indians by treating them like slaves. Among those deported were people from Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. In contrast, he pointed out that Nepalese citizens were deported with full dignity.
“PM Modi has destroyed India’s honour and self-respect. The Prime Minister remains silent even after such a massive insult to the nation,” he said. Sanjay Singh further slammed PM Modi for not responding to the increase in tariffs imposed by the US. “Countries like Mexico and Colombia send their planes and register their protests. But the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy, who calls himself a ‘Vishwaguru,’ is unwilling to speak on this matter,” he added.
Echoing the outrage, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sandeep Pathak termed the incident unprecedented in world history, stating that this was the first time citizens of a country had been deported in chains under the pretext of illegal migration. “We take such pride in our nation. The Prime Minister travels abroad, hugs world leaders, and claims India’s global standing has improved. Is this the respect he talks about? Is this how India’s honour will be upheld—by having its citizens chained and sent back?” he questioned.
He asserted that no country, including the US, had the right to insult India or its people. “Will the Prime Minister auction off our dignity like this? Has he been so intimidated that he cannot even respond?” he asked.
Dr Sandeep Pathak stated that PM Modi should have issued a strong response to the US, making it clear that such treatment of Indian citizens was unacceptable. “Deporting our people in chains is wrong, and we should have reacted with strength. Bringing Indian citizens from various states and deporting them in Amritsar in this manner was not only unfortunate but also a deliberate insult,” he said.
Dr. Sandeep Pathak emphasised that AAP would not tolerate such humiliation to Punjab and the country. “It is deeply troubling that the Prime Minister has become so weak. He boasts about enhancing India’s reputation, yet the reality speaks otherwise. The country cannot afford such feeble politics,” he added.
