Aamir Khan talks about why 'chauvinistic' films are performing well at the box office: 'A lot of people endorse patriarchy...'

Aamir Khan recently expressed that he doesn’t support films that promote a chauvinistic view of what a man should be. In a recent interview, he shared that he doesn’t agree with patriarchy, as it holds society back by years.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Aamir discussed how some films promote a chauvinistic view of what a man should be, and he shared his thoughts on this issue.
He expressed his disapproval of films that promote a chauvinistic view of men, stating that such portrayals set society back by decades. He acknowledged that people have differing opinions, with some strongly supporting patriarchy, while others do so in a more subtle way, a challenge society must confront. The actor has consistently chosen films that highlight important social issues, like domestic violence and abusive marriages, as seen in Secret Superstar and Laapataa Ladies. He believes that while society has made progress, elements of patriarchy still persist and remain deeply rooted in certain aspects of life.

Aamir also acknowledged that deep-rooted societal issues, like patriarchy, won’t disappear overnight. He highlighted how many men feel insecure and believe they have the authority to decide how much independence women should have. However, he remains hopeful that these attitudes will change over time, with stories playing a key role in changing hearts and minds. He emphasized that while logic can only go so far, emotional connections through stories and characters are far more impactful in creating change.
