    About the Job

    NLSIU invites online applications for the position of Chief of Staff in the Office of the Vice Chancellor. This is a full-time, permanent position based at the NLSIU campus in Bangalore. The appointed candidate will report directly to the Vice Chancellor.

    Role/Position

    • Post: Chief of Staff (01 vacancy)
    • Pay Structure: Level 10/11/12 as per the VIIth CPC, based on qualifications and experience.
    • Tenure: Permanent until the age of superannuation (60 years), subject to confirmation after a two-year probation period.

    Eligibility

    • Essential Qualifications: Bachelors degree in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks. For candidates with benchmark disabilities, minimum 50% aggregate marks.
    • Essential Experience: Minimum 8 years of overall work experience.
    • Desirable Qualifications: Masters degree/Post-graduate diploma in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks (50% for candidates with benchmark disabilities).

    Essential Skills and Experience

    • Experience in establishing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including business, political, and civic constituencies.
    • Experience with donor interactions and working in complex, evolving environments.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in team settings across hierarchical levels.
    • Strong management, strategic thinking, and administrative skills including writing, reporting, presenting, and interpersonal communication.
    • Supervisory skills and personnel management knowledge.
    • Experience in planning, developing, and executing events and special projects.
    • Ability to research and prepare detailed documents and presentations.
    • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
    • Capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with limited supervision.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and working effectively with diverse groups.
    • Conflict resolution skills including mediation.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters professionally.

    Responsibilities

    Project Management

    • Manage projects on behalf of the Vice Chancellor individually or as part of teams, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities are communicated.
    • Collaborate closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor on administrative priorities, duties, special projects, and initiatives.
    • Serve as the principal contact for the Vice Chancellors Office with the Academic Review Council, University Council, and campus administration.
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute special events and programmes independently.
    • Track high-priority initiatives, identify obstacles, coordinate teams, and manage projects requiring inputs from multiple university departments.
    • Oversee the administrative, operational, and budgetary functions of the Vice Chancellors Office.

    Strategic Initiatives

    • Promote and support the mission, values, and strategic goals of NLSIU.
    • Collaborate across university stakeholders to accomplish projects aligned with the strategic plan.
    • Work closely with the Vice Chancellor and senior leaders to execute critical plans.
    • Support efforts to promote equity, diversity, and improve campus climate.
    • Handle sensitive issues and requests on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.
    • Coordinate communication, events, and correspondence of the Vice Chancellors Office.
    • Act as liaison between internal and external constituencies.
    • Assess and prioritize inquiries directed to the Vice Chancellor, appropriately routing requests.
    • Resolve disputes and complaints involving staff, faculty, students, or community members through mediation.
    • Represent the Vice Chancellors Office in meetings and forums as needed.
    • Maintain confidentiality and protect university operations.
