Iran news LIVE: As the US launched another wave of strikes on Iran, Trump outlined Washington’s military objectives.

Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that the US would “hit them very hard tonight, and we’re going to hit them hard tomorrow”.

Speaking about the MoU signed between Washington and Tehran, Trump said Iran “didn’t honour the test”. Although he said on Monday that the agreement “didn’t mean much”, he had previously described it as a deal that would end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Trump also told reporters that the US would ultimately control the Strait of Hormuz and said the war on Iran was moving “very fast”. He described it as a “military skirmish” and insisted the latest bombing campaign was not the start of a prolonged war.

The US president also said Washington should be reimbursed by “the countries that we’re helping” in the war, naming regional allies including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.

Iran news LIVE: At least a dozen US military aircraft were tracked flying over the Gulf region early Tuesday as US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran for a third consecutive night.

Flight tracking data showed nine KC-135R and two KC-46A aerial refuelling tankers operating over the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and Saudi Arabia, as per CNN. Several surveillance aircraft, including an E-3B Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft and a US Navy P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, were also visible.

The E-3B Sentry is capable of monitoring up to 120,000 square miles of airspace and tracking around 600 targets simultaneously, including aircraft, missiles, drones and ground vehicles. The aerial refuelling tankers are used to keep fighter jets and other combat aircraft airborne during extended operations by allowing them to refuel mid-air.

Iran news LIVE: US Central Command said it would resume its naval blockade of vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports from 4 pm ET on Tuesday (1:30 am IST on Wednesday).

Following the announcement, global oil prices jumped by more than 9% amid concerns over potential disruptions to shipping and energy supplies.

Iran news LIVE: Iran has claimed responsibility for attacks on two super oil tankers, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) saying it struck the “offending” vessels.

The claim was reported by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which cited an IRGC statement. The announcement came hours after the United Arab Emirates accused Iran of targeting two of its oil tankers with cruise missiles in Omani waters in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran news LIVE: An Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured after two UAE oil tankers were hit by Iranian cruise missiles in Omani waters in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UAE’s Defence Ministry. In a statement, the ministry said the tankers Mombasa and Bahia were targeted by two Iranian cruise missiles in the southern passage of the strategic waterway. It said the attack killed one Indian national aboard the Mombasa and injured eight crew members, including four who were seriously hurt. Of the injured, six are Indian nationals and two are Ukrainian nationals, the ministry added.

Iran news LIVE: Explosions have been reported in several parts of Iran after US President Donald Trump said the US would carry out “very heavy” strikes on the country.

According to Iranian media, blasts were reported in the cities of Jam, Bushehr and Kangan in Bushehr province, the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, Omidiyeh in Khuzestan province, where four people were reportedly injured, the islands of Qeshm, Abu Musa and Kish in the Strait of Hormuz, and the southeastern cities of Konarak and Chabahar in Sistan-Baluchestan province.
