About the CCR

The Centre for Child Rights (CCR) is the oldest specialised action research centre of the National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack. Established in 2015, the Centre works to promote a rights-based approach to child protection by strengthening law, policy, research, and access to justice for children.

The Centre undertakes research, policy advocacy, and community engagement on issues concerning child rights and child wellbeing. In 2023, NLU Odisha received the Chief Minister’s Chair Professorship on Child Rights, currently led by Prof. Biraj Swain.

About the Journal

The Journal on the Rights of the Child is a bi-annual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published by the Centre for Child Rights, NLU Odisha.

The journal encourages scholarship on child rights, juvenile justice, legislative and policy developments, child wellbeing, and related socio-legal issues. It also welcomes interdisciplinary perspectives, including discussions on media representation of children and popular culture.

The journal is supported by an Editorial Advisory Board comprising distinguished judges and academicians from India and abroad, along with an Editorial Board and Associate Editors from leading universities and research institutions.

Categories of Submissions

Submissions are invited under the following categories:

• Original Research Papers: 4,000–6,000 words
• Case Commentaries: 1,500–2,000 words
• Notes and Comments: 1,500–2,000 words
• Book Reviews: 1,200–1,500 words
• Fact Sheets on child rights or child wellbeing (visual/infographic format)
• Juvenile Justice at a Glance: 3,000–4,000 words
• Pop-culture Reviews/Commentaries: 1,200–1,500 words
• Children in the News: 2,000–2,500 words

Suggested Themes

The journal welcomes submissions on, among others:

• Recent judicial and legislative developments relating to child rights.
• Child protection and child wellbeing.
• POCSO and adolescent relationships.
• Prevention of Child Marriage Act and recent Supreme Court decisions.
• Right to Education and school governance.
• Public expenditure on education and health.
• Digital privacy, anonymisation, surveillance, and children’s rights.
• Rehabilitation and reintegration of children in conflict with law.
• Budgeting and public finance for children.
• Reviews of films, web series, and other media concerning children.
• Media reporting on child rights.
• Photo essays on children’s lives.
• Fact sheets on education, health, nutrition, or internet access.

The above themes are indicative and not exhaustive.

Submission Guidelines

• Submissions must be original and should not have been published or submitted elsewhere.
• Manuscripts must be submitted in .doc or .docx format to ccr@nluo.ac.in with the subject line “Submission for CCR – NLUO Journal.”
• All submissions should include:
  • An abstract of 150–300 words;
  • At least five keywords; and
  • A separate title page containing the author’s details, brief profile, contact information, declarations regarding originality, AI usage, funding (if any), and conflict of interest (if any).
• APA 7th edition citation style must be followed.
• Manuscripts should be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font, with single-line spacing.
• Co-authorship is permitted.
• Authors with access to Turnitin should submit both a Turnitin Similarity Report and an AI Report.
• The permissible plagiarism limit is below 10%, while the AI content threshold is below 20%.
• Plagiarism or extensive AI-generated writing may lead to summary rejection.

Review Process

Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis and will undergo a double-blind peer review.

The Editorial Team aims to communicate its decision within five weeks of submission. Authors of accepted manuscripts should not publish the accepted work elsewhere. Editorial revisions may be suggested during the review process, and final publication decisions shall remain with the Editorial Board.

Interested authors should submit their manuscripts in .doc or .docx format to ccr@nluo.ac.in with the subject line “Submission for CCR – NLUO Journal.”

Authors who have access to Turnitin are also required to submit a Turnitin Similarity Report and an AI Report along with their manuscript.
