First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression

I initially applied for the internship by emailing my CV to advkashyap1@gmail.com. After my application was accepted, I reported for my first day at the Registrar’s office in Ranchi, where I submitted my internship letter. I was then directed to the chambers of A.K. Kashyap & Associates.

I received a warm welcome with a friendly “Good morning” and a brief introduction to the team. The office layout impressed me immediately. It had neatly arranged shelves filled with case files, law books, and client records, along with a well-organized reception area and clerk’s desk.

The overall setup appeared highly professional, organized, and welcoming compared to many other legal chambers.

Main Tasks

My responsibilities during the internship included:

• Courtroom Observation: Attending the High Court daily to observe court proceedings, note the arguments presented, and understand court procedures, including item numbers, pleadings, and courtroom practices.
• Legal Research and Drafting: Conducting legal research on civil and criminal matters, including provisions of the IPC, CPC, and the Evidence Act; reviewing case briefs; researching relevant case law; and drafting applications in simple matters.
• Case File Management: Organizing and maintaining client files, tracking court dates, and assisting the clerical staff in updating case records.
• Client Preparation: Observing client consultations conducted by the advocates and assisting in preparing outlines and relevant documents for meetings and court proceedings.

Work Environment

The work environment was collegial, professional, and friendly.

The senior counsels, Mr. Anurag Kashyap and Mrs. Supriya Kashyap, were approachable mentors who consistently provided constructive feedback and clarified legal doubts. The clerks and support staff were equally helpful, patiently explaining court procedures and administrative processes.

The office maintained a collaborative and professional atmosphere, where team members worked together and regularly discussed ongoing cases. The overall environment was well-organized and welcoming and encouraged interns to ask questions and learn without hesitation.

Good Things about the Internship

• Court Exposure: Frequent presence in the High Court and tribunals helped me gain a good understanding of litigation processes and court etiquette.
• Good Mentorship: Regular guidance from senior advocates helped improve my legal research and drafting skills.
• Real-World Application: The opportunity to apply principles of the IPC, CPC, and the Evidence Act to live cases enhanced my understanding of the law.

Bad Things about the Internship

There were no significant drawbacks to the internship. It was a positive experience overall, and I had the opportunity to learn new things and gain practical exposure to the law.

Monthly Stipend

It was an unpaid internship.

Details about the accommodation, commuting to the office

I live in Ranchi, so there was no accommodation issue for me. However, students coming from other places can stay in nearby PG accommodations.
