    About the Organiser

    Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur (MNLU Nagpur) was established by the Government of Maharashtra under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014 (Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014) as the nineteenth National Law University in India.

    Spread across a 60-acre campus on the outskirts of Nagpur, the University is known for its world-class infrastructure, student-centric pedagogy, and emphasis on the holistic development of its students.

    The University offers a wide range of programmes, including B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.A. LL.B. (Hons. in Adjudication and Justicing), B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. It is committed to fostering academic excellence, research, and lifelong learning.

    Through its specialised centres for advanced legal studies, research, and advocacy, MNLU Nagpur actively engages with socio-legal issues by organising courses, seminars, conferences, and training programmes that promote constitutional values and social empowerment.

    About the Event

    The Orange Capital Debate is the flagship national debate competition of MNLU Nagpur. Named after Nagpur’s identity as the “Orange City,” the competition seeks to promote critical thinking, intellectual engagement, and debating excellence.

    The third edition of the tournament will be held from July 31 to August 2, 2026. Phase I registrations are open until July 12, 2026.

    The competition will follow the British Parliamentary (BP) format, where the House is divided into two opposing sides: the Proposition (Government) and the Opposition. Each side comprises an Opening and a Closing team, with two speakers in each team. The adjudication policy will be N = N+1. Every team must comprise two speakers and one adjudicator. Cross teams are permitted.

    Eligibility

    The competition is open to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at any university recognised by the UGC. Students who have completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies from a UGC-recognised university are also eligible to participate.

    Important Dates

    • Phase I Registration Deadline: July 12, 2026
    • Phase II Registration Deadline: July 20, 2026
    • Inaugural Ceremony: July 31, 2026
    • Preliminary Rounds: July 31-August 1, 2026
    • Semi-finals and Finals: August 2, 2026
    • Prize Distribution and Valedictory Ceremony: August 2, 2026

    Prizes

    The competition offers a prize pool of up to Rs. 1.75 lakh.

    Venue

    The competition will be conducted in offline mode at the MNLU Nagpur campus.

    Registration Procedure

    Interested participants may register as institutional teams, cross teams, or independent adjudicators through the registration link provided at the end of this post.

    Registration Fee

    • Rs. 2,500 per participant (inclusive of accommodation)
    • Rs. 2,000 per participant (without accommodation)
