BCCI Bans Sportswear Manufacturers, Real Money Gaming Platforms from Sponsoring Team India

According to MINT, BCCI is in the process of onboarding a new lead sponsor for team India after BYJU’s stepped away. However, not everyone can bid for this esteemed position.

BYJU’s, the global ed-tech company, had the privilege of sponsoring Team India across all three formats. However, in a surprising turn of events, the ed-tech company decided to pull out as the lead sponsor of Team India.
According to a report by MINT, BCCI is currently looking for a new sponsor to prominently feature on the team’s jersey. The Mint article mentions the following:
“…with BYJU’s stepping away, the BCCI has initiated the process to find a new lead sponsor. The board has released an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for interested parties to bid for this prestigious opportunity.”
The move by BCCI is sure to draw a remarkable amount of attention from top brands. It will be interesting to see who makes the cut and gets the position of being the lead sponsor for Team India ahead of the ODI World Cup to be held later this year.
“Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing the ITT does not entitle any person to bid,” BCCI mentioned in a statement.
The BCCI has also clarified that not all brands can bid for the sponsorship. Betting companies, tobacco companies, and cryptocurrency entities, among others, have been deemed prohibited.
The MINT article mentions the following and I quote:
“…These brands cannot bid for being the title sponsor for Team India.
These include athleisure and sportswear manufacturers, alcohol products, betting companies, cryptocurrency entities, real money gaming platforms (excluding fantasy sports gaming), tobacco brands, and those associated with offensive content such as pornography or public moral offense. “
