Junior Advocate at DRAT Kolkata

About the Engagement

The Organisation is contesting our own matter as a “Party in Person” before the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), Kolkata, primarily through Video Conferencing. We are looking to engage a reliable, locally based Junior Advocate to assist with case preparation, act as our physical standby counsel, and handle document submissions during live hearings.

Eligibility/ Requirement

• Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of West Bengal.
• 1 to 3 years of PQE (Post-Qualification Experience).
• Prior experience or strong familiarity with DRT/DRAT Kolkata proceedings and the local registry processes.
• Highly proactive, communicative, prompt, and comfortable in coordinating via phone/ video calls for case briefings.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Physical Representation & Standby: Attend scheduled hearings at DRAT Kolkata (9, Old Post Office Street). In the event of VC disruptions (dropped connections, audio failures), step in to request a pass-over/adjournment or answer factual queries on our behalf.
• Live Document Handover: Print and carry a physical file of our case documents to the courtroom. When we reference a crucial document or judgment during our VC arguments, physically hand over the “Bench Copy” to the Court Master/Hon’ble Bench.
• Local Filings: Assist in filing hard copies of applications, affidavits, or written submissions in the DRAT Kolkata registry when postal submissions are not viable.
• Case Preparation & Research: Conduct targeted legal research on precedents relevant to the SARFAESI Act and the RDDBFI Act. Assist in reviewing and drafting applications.
• Court Coordination: Keep us updated on the real-time movement of the cause list via WhatsApp on the day of the hearing.
