Sooryavanshi now tops the Orange Cap race in the competition, having accumulated in 200 runs in the four innings that he has played thus far.
The southpaw was acquired by RR for a mere sum of ₹1.1 crore int he mega auction ahead of IPL 2025. He wasn’t a regular starter in the playing XI earlier, but was drafted into the side midway into the campaign as RR endured a difficult campaign altogether.
Sooryavanshi made an instant impact, smashing Shardul Thakur for a six off the first ball that he faced I the tournament. A few days later, he struck a century off 35 deliveries against the Gujarat Titans (GT). The Bihar batter was roped into the India U-19 setup later on, and underwent successful tours of England and Australia.
He rounded off that journey by hammering 175 runs off 80 deliveries in the final of the U-19 World Cup against England, before re-entering the RR setup for what is turning out to be a defining second season in the competition for him.
Sooryavanshi started the campaign strongly, taking 15 deliveries to reach the half-century mark against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati.
He followed that up by hitting two sixes off the three deliveries he faced against Jasprit Bumrah in the rain-curtailed match at the same venue earlier this week. Bumrah missed his lengths by just a bit, and Sooryavanshi deposited the ball in the stands twice in what turned out to be one of the most captivating battles of the tournament thus far.
