Likhawat 3.0 – National Essay Writing Competition 2026 by NLUT

About NLUT

NLUT was established in 2022 by the State of Tripura (Act No. 3 of 2022). The foundation stone was laid by Her Excellency Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India. The Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura serves as the Chancellor.

The university offers five-year integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes and admits students through CLAT. Under the leadership of its founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, NLUT is committed to fostering excellence in legal education and promoting the rule of law and social justice in North-East India.

Categories

1. School Level

  • Eligibility: Higher Secondary (Class 11–12) students of any recognised Board in India (All Streams)
  • Word Limit: 1000–1500 words
  • Prizes:
    • 1st Prize: ₹ 7,000 + Certificate of Merit + chance to publish the manuscript in NLU Tripura’s Journal of Law and Policy
    • 2nd Prize: ₹ 5,000 + Certificate of Merit
    • Top two essays will also receive Certificates of Merit.

2. University & College Level

  • Eligibility: Diploma / Undergraduate / Postgraduate students of any recognised College/University in India
  • Word Limit: 2000–2500 words
  • Prizes
    • 1st Prize: ₹ 15,000 + Certificate of Merit + chance to publish the manuscript in NLU Tripura’s Journal of Law and Policy
    • 2nd Prize: ₹ 10,000 + Certificate of Merit
    • Top two essays will also receive Certificates of Merit.
  • All participants in both categories will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Important Dates

  • Last date of registration: 20 May 2026
  • Last date of submission: 15 June 2026
  • Results announcement: Tentatively July 2026 (on NLU Tripura’s official website and social media handles)

  • University/College Students: ₹ 500 only

Submission Guidelines (Mandatory)

  • Language: English only
  • Format: MS Word (.doc/.docx)
  • Font & Spacing: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified, A4 size
  • Footnotes: Strictly ILI citation format
  • Originality: Must be unpublished. Plagiarism >15% or AI-generated content >15% will lead to disqualification.
  • Mandatory uploads: Valid Plagiarism Report (Turnitin/Drillbit) + separate AI-generated content report (along with the essay).
  • Submissions will be accepted only through the Google Form links mentioned in the brochure.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Topic relevance, originality & clarity
  • Compelling issue analysis supported by research, evidence and/or personal connection
  • Tangible, specific and creative solutions
  • Ways in which Indian citizens can be part of the solution

Note: Essays not aligned with the theme will be rejected. The decision of the judges is final and binding.
