About the Bank
Established in 1964, the African Development Bank is the premier pan-African development institution, promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. There are 81 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries).
The Bank’s development agenda is delivering the financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten-Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and ensure greater developmental impact, four Cardinal Points, all of which will accelerate the delivery for Africa.
They have been identified for scaling up, namely Unlocking capital at scale, Reforming Africa’s financial architecture, from demographic boom to economic powerhouse, Building climate-resilient infrastructure and value addition.
The Internship program is part of a wider Talent Management Framework which facilitates the Bank to deliver on the Ten-Year Strategy.
About the Internship
The internship programme is designed to serve both participants and the institution through a mutually beneficial learning experience.
The broad objectives of the program are to:
- Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
- Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.
However, applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank.
Fields of Study
The African Development Bank seeks candidates from a wide range of disciplines aligned with its operational priorities.
Core Fields Include:
- Agriculture
- Human Capital Development
- Engineering
- Finance and Investment
- Operations and Programme Management
- Sustainability and Climate
- Procurement and Risk Management
- Economics, Statistics, and Data Management
- Information Technology
- Human Resources

Preference is given to candidates whose academic work directly relates to the Bank’s mission and development agenda.
Duration and Timeline
- Minimum: 3 months
- Maximum: 6 months
- Internship can only be undertaken once per candidate
Session 2 of the 2026 Internship Programme is scheduled to begin in July 2026.
Mode
- Internships may be:
- On-site in Abidjan
- Remote, depending on departmental needs
Remote interns must ensure access to:
- A personal computer
- Reliable internet connection
- A suitable working environment
Eligibility
To qualify for the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 30 years old or younger at the start of the internship
- Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme or have graduated within the past year
- Must be a national of a member country of the Bank. Note: Indians are allowed to apply.
- Must provide proof of enrollment or degree completion
- Must be fluent in at least one of the Bank’s working languages:
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Knowledge of SAP is an added advantage

- Support with visa arrangements (where applicable)
- On-site interns cover:
- Travel costs to and from Abidjan
- Accommodation and living expenses
- Remote interns must ensure adequate working resources
