First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression

I was asked to report at 10:00 AM sharp, and I was the first to arrive at the office. Around 10:45 AM, another intern arrived, as it was her last day. Shortly thereafter, the Managing Partner, Adv. Anil Harish met me and invited me into his office.

He asked about my college, my family background, and my motivation for pursuing law. He was very warm and welcoming throughout the interaction. After our conversation, he asked the other intern to take me to the working area, where I was provided with a laptop.

The associates then introduced themselves and formally welcomed me as the new intern. I was also given a tour of the office, including its various departments.

Main Tasks

My primary responsibility was to assist partners and associates with legal research and drafting, and to occasionally support them in court proceedings across matters involving real estate, wills and succession, and corporate law.

Work Environment

The work environment was very relaxed and supportive. I was required to report by 10:00 AM and could leave by 6:00 PM; however, I was expected to meet Adv. Anil Harish both at the start and end of the day, during which he would ask about what I had learned.

The associates were approachable and willing to mentor me, helping me understand complex legal issues. The partners were also supportive and contributed to a positive learning environment.

Good Things about the Internship

One of the most positive aspects of this internship was the firm’s understanding that students are still in the learning phase and are not expected to perform at the level of professional lawyers. I was guided through each task in detail, and whenever I had queries, the team was always willing to help and clarify.

The working hours were reasonable and well-structured. On one occasion, I was asked to stay longer as I attended a meeting with the Managing Partners and Senior Associates, which was a valuable learning experience.

Another notable aspect was that I was never made to feel like “just an intern,” even in front of clients. I was consistently treated as part of the team. I was also given the opportunity to sit with Mr. Anil Harish during client meetings, which provided significant exposure to real-world legal interactions.

Bad Things about the Internship

I did not have any negative experiences during the internship. However, for those specifically seeking pure litigation exposure, this may not be the ideal place. While there was some involvement in litigation, it was not extensive, as the work was primarily focused on corporate advisory and consultancy.

That said, the role offered regular interaction with clients, providing valuable practical exposure. One important takeaway is that initiative plays a key role here. While some associates did assign work, it was essential to proactively ask if there was anything I could assist with; otherwise, there could be periods of inactivity.

Monthly Stipend

I was provided with a stipend, which was a decent amount and sufficient to cover my monthly meals during office hours as well as my travel expenses.

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office

I resided approximately 3.5–4 km from the office and commuted by bike, which involved minimal fuel costs.

Anything else you want to share?

The biggest takeaway for me was understanding that initiative matters more than anything. No one is going to constantly guide you, and the more you step forward, the more you learn.

I also realized how different practical law is from theory, especially in client interactions, where clarity, confidence, and presence matter just as much as legal knowledge.

Overall, the internship gave me a clearer picture of how the profession actually works and pushed me to be more proactive, observant, and confident in a professional setting.
