Mr.Ghanshyam Patel, learned counsel appearing for

published today in Haribhumi Bilaspur Bhumi, i.e., f’k{kk

gtkj vkosnuks a dh tkap rd ugh a gks ldh regarding the

commencement of the new academic session in the

State from April 1 and the slow progress of the

admission process for Class 1 under the RTE (Right to

Education) Act where, out of 38,438 applications

received, only 23,766 (62%) have been verified so far,

leaving more than 16,000 applications pending, and in

several districts less than 10% of the applications have

been verified; further noting that the Directorate of

Public Instruction (DPI) had fixed the timeline for

registration and nodal verification from February 16 to

March 31, which remains incomplete even after the
3/4

deadline, allegedly due to the slow pace of verification

at the nodal principal level, thereby affecting the

subsequent admission process; and further considering

that nodal verification of pending applications has not

been completed on time in most districts, with

disparities between the number of applications received

and available seats, and that school allotment through

a lottery is scheduled between April 13 and 17 but may

be delayed due to incomplete verification, causing

inconvenience to parents who may be required to make

repeated visits, this Court has taken suo motu

cognizance of the said news report and has assembled

to hear the matter today itself, though the PIL was

earlier fixed for 8th April, 2026, as per the order of this

Court dated 24.03.2026.

Considering the aforesaid facts, the Joint

Secretary, School Education Department, Government

of Chhattisgarh, who was earlier directed to file an

affidavit, is also directed to file an affidavit with regard

to the news items published and the steps taken in this
4/4

regard.

List this matter on 8th April, 2026, as ordered by

this Court on 24.03.2026.
