First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
The first day involved a formal introduction to the Managing Partner, followed by an orientation session with the Senior Associates. I was briefed on the diverse practice areas of the firm and the reporting hierarchy.
The office infrastructure in Arera Colony is impressive, blending a corporate aesthetic with the traditional resources of a high-court practice.
My first impression was that of a teaching firm; there was an immediate sense that the seniors were invested in ensuring interns understood the practical context of their research assignments.
Main Tasks
My tasks involved a mix of litigation support and advisory work. I conducted extensive research on matters pending before the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
I drafted skeletal arguments and writ petitions, specifically focusing on service law and property disputes. I was also tasked with preparing case notes for consumer forum matters and researching the latest amendments in the M.P. Land Revenue Code.
Additionally, I assisted in drafting legal opinions for corporate clients regarding compliance and contract enforcement. I frequently attended court proceedings to observe how the research I conducted was utilized during oral advocacy.
Work Environment
The work environment at Magna Peritus is welcoming and highly academic. There is a strong sense of mentorship, and the associates are often individuals who understand the academic rigors of the B.Sc. LL.B. program.
Unlike larger Tier-1 firms, where work can be segmented, here I was able to see the full lifecycle of a case, from the initial client briefing to the final order.
The atmosphere is professional yet approachable, allowing for open discussions on legal strategy. It is a high-energy environment, especially during the morning briefing hours before the High Court sessions begin.
Good Things about the Internship
The best part was the diversity of the work. On any given day, I could be researching a constitutional writ in the morning and a RERA complaint in the afternoon. Being in Bhopal allowed me to see the practical application of local laws that are often glossed over in a national curriculum.
The firm also provides interns with meaningful feedback on their drafting; my List of Dates and Case Summaries were reviewed in detail, which helped sharpen my attention to procedural facts. It was also a great networking opportunity within the Bhopal legal circle.
Bad Things about the Internship
Because the firm handles a high volume of local litigation, the clerical side of work, such as organizing case files or checking the cause list, can be repetitive.
Additionally, since the High Court is the primary focus, the pace can be unpredictable; some days are extremely hectic, with multiple hearings, while others are slower, requiring a lot of self-driven research.

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office
As a student at NLIU, I commuted from the university campus/hostel. The office in Arera Colony is well-connected. The commute takes about 20–30 minutes from the Kerwa Dam Road area. Arera Colony itself is a central hub with plenty of food options, such as 10 Number Market nearby for lunch.
Anything else you want to share?
This internship was a great lesson in ground-level lawyering. It taught me how to interact with court clerks and the importance of knowing local court rules.
To chill out, I often visited the nearby cafes in Bittan Market or took a break at the Upper Lake after office hours. I realised that having a strong grasp of local litigation is just as important as knowing international law.
