Milbank LLP partner Gurbir S. Grewal, a William & Mary Law School alumnus and former NJ Attorney General, joined fellow alumnus and former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares for a conversation on collegiality, the law and public service, as part of the Ginsburg–Scalia Collegiality Speaker Series on March 30, 2026, at William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. The series builds on the relationship between Justices Ruth Bader-Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia, who despite their ideological differences maintained a friendship that benefitted both the Supreme Court and the country.

During the program, Mr. Grewal spoke with students about collegiality as a professional discipline that requires respect not only for the facts and law applicable to a given case, but also for adversaries and institutions. He also discussed his career trajectory and shared advice for those interested in serving in state and federal government. Both Mr. Grewal and Mr. Miyares also noted that despite disagreements on policy, public service teaches lessons about responsibility, judgment, and restraint worth discussing honestly and respectfully.
