This Pakistani Cricketer Feels Virat Kohli Could Easily Lift the World Title
This former Pakistani wicket-keeper feels Virat Kohli was a victim of internal issues that eluded him from an ICC trophy.
Virat Kohli, a legend who is still playing for India, has a plethora of records. Cricket gurus believe that if anyone can touch or even break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries, is Virat Kohli.
While it is true that Virat has taken India to victory under his captaincy, an ICC trophy has eluded him.
When Virat stepped down as captain from T20 and Test, he was also asked to relinquish from ODI’s as well. While the move proved detrimental, Virat quickly got back to form.
Rashid Latif, former wicket-keeper of Pakistan, in an interview, mentioned that Virat was among few players who could have made a difference for India. In addition to winning various Test and T20 series, he was more than capable of taking India to victory in major ICC trophies. According to the former cricketer, Virat’s aspirations for winning an ICC trophy were hindered due to internal issues.
The former Pakistani cricketer took to his official YouTube channel and remarked, “Virat Kohli had a direction and he wanted to win, but he was sacked. The team couldn’t perform due to internal issues. They couldn’t perform in ICC tournaments because, maybe, the captain didn’t get the desired players. Or maybe he got it, but they weren’t used.”
“Their team is still pretty good, they will get a no.4. The problem begins when the top 3 get dismissed quickly. If the top 3 plays out the 25-30 overs, they will win easily. Their issue is the top 3 aren’t performing how they used to. They could’ve brought back Shikhar Dhawan, you had made him captain less than a year ago during a tour. You had players; you threw them here and there.”
Virat Kohli is not a part of the ongoing T20 series versus the West Indies; however, he, along with Captain Rohit Sharma, will be next seen in the Asia Cup, which will begin on August 30, 2023.
The BCCI is one of the most influential cricket boards in the world. while it is true that India has some fantastic players waiting for a chance to wear the Indian colors, the BCCI should be considerate while dealing with old champions. After Virat voluntarily decided to step down from the captaincy, the board should have been more sensitive while dealing with the matter.
