About the Opportunity

This is a full-time, in-house position that involves responding to cruelty complaints, coordinating with law enforcement and civic authorities, and providing on-ground support for animals in distress.

The role is best suited to candidates with prior exposure to animal welfare work and a practical understanding of animal protection laws, along with the ability to work independently and responsibly in real-world situations.

Position Details

  • Job Title: Animal Cruelty Response Officer (In-House Role)
  • Organisation: People for Animals Head Office (PFA), New Delhi
  • Location: Jor Bagh, New Delhi 110003
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

About the Role

The Animal Cruelty Response Officer will be responsible for assessing, and addressing complaints of animal cruelty, coordinating with RWAs, police departments, and municipal bodies, and ensuring that applicable animal protection laws are appropriately enforced.

The role also involves facilitating emergency support for animals in distress, and drafting legal communications related to cruelty cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle and resolve complaints involving cruelty to companion or community animals through appropriate coordination and intervention.
  • Liaise with local authorities, RWAs, and community stakeholders to resolve disputes.
  • Coordinate with volunteers and partner organisations for follow-up and intervention.
  • Assist in arranging emergency care, including facilitating veterinary aid and shelter support.
  • Conduct outreach and awareness activities related to animal welfare laws.
  • Draft legal notices and assist with documentation or litigation support.
  • Develop proactive strategies to prevent cruelty in urban and residential settings.

Who can Apply?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or Social Work.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred; candidates with prior exposure to animal welfare work through internships, volunteering, or field-based engagement will also be considered.
  • Working knowledge of Indian animal welfare laws and procedures.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive situations with maturity and empathy.

Additional Information

  • Selection Process: A short assignment followed by a telephonic interview to assess mutual fit.
  • Probation Period: One-week unpaid trial period prior to confirmation of employment.
  • Preferred Profile: Applicants with a demonstrated, long-term commitment to animal rights and welfare.
