Kalyan, known as a historic gateway to Mumbai, is a confluence of railways, rivers, resilience, and relentless urban rhythm. The heat rises gently off its expanding concrete, while the Ulhas River weaves its way through stories of trade, tides, and transformation. Once a thriving port town, now a fast-growing suburban sprawl, Kalyan balances its past and present with quiet intensity. From crowded junctions to pockets of lingering green, from monsoon floods to summer dust, the city moves with a pulse that refuses to slow down. In its chaos and charm,
Kalyan stands as a living experiment where history, migration, and modernity collide every single day.

Sapad Pond is located on the banks of Ulhas River which flows through the Sapad village in the outskirts of Kalyan City. This pond was in a dilapidated state owing to poor maintenance. The bunds of the pond were broken and improper. The water body was heavily silted with sludge, invasive weeds took over the bunds and solid wastes were dumped around the periphery of the pond. E.F.I in collaboration with the Maharashtra and Citi Bank took on the task of reviving
the Sapad pond back to its former glory.
