The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on wellness and lifestyle-led interventions, stressing a broader societal shift toward experience-driven consumption.
This trend is mirrored in the private sector, particularly in experiential hospitality.
According to Samir M C, CEO of Tamara Leisure Experiences, domestic travellers are prioritising experiences that combine nature, culture, wellness, and personal well-being, rather than traditional luxury defined by city hotels and branded properties.
“Experiential travel is largely being driven by structural changes in the Indian travel market rather than short-term cycles,” Samir said.
He added that improved infrastructure and connectivity, along with rising disposable incomes, are enabling travellers to explore previously remote destinations, while domestic tourism continues to outpace international arrivals.
Samir also noted that the definition of luxury has shifted. “Travellers are increasingly seeking stays that are personal, immersive, and rooted in the destination, with a focus on wellness, culture, and environmental authenticity. Travel purposes are diversifying, with leisure increasingly combined with wellness, remote working, and personal celebrations.”
From an investment perspective, he said demand growth in experience-led destinations is outstripping supply, supporting occupancy, room rates, and long-term asset performance.
“Properties offering curated activities and wellness-focused experiences tend to attract longer stays, higher repeat visitation, and more stable cash flows. Supply-constrained markets provide stronger pricing power, making assets structurally well-positioned for long-term returns.”
He highlighted three structural shifts driving this trend: rising domestic travel, increased discretionary spending on lifestyle and wellness, and a move toward experience-led consumption emphasizing sustainability, environmental responsibility, and cultural relevance.
Institutional investors are beginning to take notice. “Branded platforms, stronger management capabilities, and asset-light models reduce development and operational risk, improving the investability of experience-led hospitality,” Samir said.
