National Law University Delhi hosted a distinguished lecture under the 12th Edition of the Jurist Speaks – Eminent Scholars Lecture Series, an initiative of the Chair on Professional Ethics and IQAC, on 12 March 2026.
The lecture featured an insightful address by Prof. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar, Professor Emeritus and former Chairman, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof. Kumar delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Reservation for EWS under the 103rd Constitutional Amendment via the Basic Structure Doctrine: A Critique of the Five-Judge Bench Judgment in Janhit Abhiyan v. Union of India.”
The lecture offered a critical constitutional perspective on the judgment while encouraging students and faculty to reflect on the principles of equality, reservation policy, and the evolving contours of the Basic Structure Doctrine under the Constitution of India. The session fostered engaging academic dialogue and enriched discussions on contemporary constitutional issues.
