About UPES

UPES, established in 2003 through the UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand, is one of India’s leading higher education institutions, widely recognised for its industry-aligned and future-focused academic approach.

About the Competition

  • The International Competition on Negotiating Transactional Documents (ICNTDs) is a premier event designed to nurture aspiring legal professionals’ negotiation, drafting, and due diligence skills in India.
  • This unique competition engages participants in a multi-phased competition mirroring the lifecycle of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
  • The competition journey begins with the submission of the Issues list based on the documents and the problem deck provided.
  • This submission of issues list serves as a foundation for the subsequent stages of negotiation rounds.

Mode

The competition will be conducted in a Hybrid mode.

Eligibility

The competition is open for all the students enrolled from first to final year, including 3 year and 5 year integrated law program from a recognized law school.

Team Composition

A team shall comprise of two members. This composition cannot be altered except with the prior written approval of the Corporate and Business Law Cell (hereinafter referred to as CBLC).

Dress Code

The dress code for the competition shall be formal attire. Violating this rule will bar a contestant from appearing in the oral rounds. The dress code applies to all the pleading teams.

Prizes and Recognition

The competition will recognize outstanding performance across all stages, awarding prizes such as cash awards, trophies, certificates of excellence.

Rounds of Competition

The competition is structured into four rounds, each representing a crucial phase in the lifecycle of a transaction.

  • The Preliminary Round (Online): Each team will once represent both the entities involved in the transaction. This
    will be based on the submission of the Issues list.
  • Quarter Finals (Online): A total of 8 teams will advance to this round.
  • Semi-Finals (On Campus): A total of 4 teams will advance to this round.
  • Finals (On Campus): A total of 2 teams will advance to this round.

  • Registration Date: 13th January, 2026
  • Last date of Registration: 18th March, 2026
  • Release of Problem Deck: 15th January, 2026
  • Last Date of Submission of Issues List: 20th March, 2026
  • Preliminary Round I & II: 28th March, 2026
  • Quarter Finals: 29th March, 2026
  • Advanced Rounds: 10 – 12th April, 2026

Payment Details

  • Indian Teams – INR 3000
  • International Teams: $ 40
  • Accommodation Fees – INR 900 Per Person, Per Day (Not inclusive of the registration fees).
