Located on the outskirts of Pethapur village in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Pethapur Pond is a small rain-fed agricultural water body surrounded by farmlands. The pond plays an important role in supporting irrigation, maintaining soil moisture, and recharging local groundwater, making it vital for nearby farming communities and local biodiversity.
Over time, the pond had become severely degraded due to invasive weeds, heavy silt deposition that reduced storage capacity, weakened and eroded bunds, and prolonged lack of maintenance.
As part of the #BlueGreenGandhinagar initiative, the Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I) collaborated with the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation to restore the pond through scientific restoration measures including deweeding, desilting, and strengthening of the embankments, helping the water body regain its ecological and hydrological functionality.
