The LL.M. in Data Science and Data Protection Law is a two-year postgraduate programme that integrates advanced legal studies with data science, privacy, and emerging technologies.
It is designed for law graduates who seek to understand not only the doctrinal and regulatory dimensions of data governance, but also the technical logic that increasingly shapes digital systems.
Through a thoughtful combination of legal principles and data-science methodologies, the programme equips students to analyse, interpret, and govern data-driven systems while ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.
Core interdisciplinary areas include:
- Data Science for Legal Applications – statistical analysis, machine learning basics, predictive modelling, and text-based legal analytics.
- Legal-Tech Integration – algorithmic accountability, data governance models, and computational approaches to compliance.
- Technical Implementation of Privacy Laws – anonymization, privacy-preserving methods, and the operationalisation of Privacy by Design.
The programme prepares graduates to translate legal requirements into technical specifications, evaluate the evidentiary value of data-science outputs, and design compliance systems that are both legally sound and technologically feasible.
Eligibility
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Forensic Science: Graduate holding a B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Hons.) degree from a recognized university in India or abroad. Minimum 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree. 5%-mark relaxation will be for SC/ST candidates. Reservation Policy will be applied as per West Bengal State Government norms.
- M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice Administration: The program can be availed by a graduate holding a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks from any recognised University in India or abroad.
- LL.M. in Data Science and Data Protection Law: A bachelor’s degree in Law with at least 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA from a UGC-recognized Indian University, or an equivalent foreign degree. A 5% relaxation in marks is available for SC/ST candidates. Reservation shall apply as per the norms of the Government of West Bengal.

About the Trainers/Faculty
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Forensic Science: The programme is run by the School of Forensic Science at NUJS. Faculty members are highly qualified with expertise in forensic biology, chemistry, physical and digital/cyber forensics. They lead classroom teaching, lab sessions, workshops, and research supervision. Faculty are actively involved in research, publications, and forensic consultancy, providing students with hands-on training and exposure to real-world forensic practices.
M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice Administration The programme is supported by a dedicated faculty team with expertise in diverse areas of criminology and criminal justice. Through their specialized courses, the faculty ensure that students receive both theoretical grounding and practical insights into contemporary criminological issues.
LL.M. in Data Science and Data Protection Law: The programme is supported by an interdisciplinary faculty team at NUJS with expertise in data science, statistics, law, technology regulation, public policy, and computing. Faculty members lead classroom teaching, research-oriented discussions, academic mentoring, and applied engagement with contemporary issues in data protection and digital governance.
