Loyalty points for everyday spending: How hospitality rewards are expanding beyond travel

Loyalty programs in India are extending beyond travel, allowing consumers to earn rewards through everyday transactions. In a recent development, Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s loyalty program, has partnered with Swiggy, India’s on-demand convenience platform, to allow members to earn rewards through everyday transactions such as food delivery, grocery orders, and dining out.

Marriott Bonvoy members with linked accounts can earn points on qualifying purchases across Swiggy’s offerings, including Food Delivery, Instamart, and Dineout, effectively turning routine spending into opportunities to accumulate rewards for hotel stays and travel experiences worldwide.

Members earn five points for every ₹500 spent, extending the program’s benefits beyond travel.

Elite Marriott Bonvoy members, across Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador tiers, also receive a complimentary Swiggy One membership, giving access to free deliveries, discounts, and benefits across multiple services.

John Toomey, Chief Commercial Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International, said the partnership brings loyalty into everyday life, making Marriott Bonvoy “more immediate, relevant, and just a tap away.”

Phani Kishan Addepalli, Chief Growth Officer and Co-Founder of Swiggy, added that the collaboration turns everyday moments into rewarding experiences by letting users earn global travel benefits while using Swiggy’s services.

The collaboration is part of a broader trend in India where loyalty programs are moving from travel-centric engagement to continuous, everyday connections, linking daily consumer behavior with long-term rewards. Members can link their accounts through official channels to start earning points across multiple services.
