About Organizers:

• National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal
  Founded in 1997, NLIU is one of India’s leading law schools, known for combining rigorous academics with practical exposure. It emphasizes research, innovation, and public engagement through moot courts, legal aid, internships, and conferences.
• Centre for Research in International Law (CRIL)
  A student‑run body at NLIU dedicated to international law. CRIL organizes lectures, publishes a flagship journal, circulates weekly updates, and issues monthly newsletters to keep students engaged with global legal developments.

Aim of the Competition:

The Treaty Drafting and Negotiation Competition is designed to simulate how States negotiate and draft treaties in real life.

• Participants act as State representatives.
• They must draft treaty texts reflecting national interests, then negotiate provisions to reconcile differences.
• The competition emphasizes legal reasoning, diplomacy, consensus‑building, and policy analysis.
• It moves beyond traditional moot formats by combining written drafting with live negotiation simulations.

Competition Format:

The competition unfolds in two stages: written submissions and negotiation rounds.

Eligibility & Team Composition:

• Open to all students in India (UG or PG).
• Teams of maximum 2 members.
• Cross‑institutional and cross‑programme teams are allowed — flexibility for collaboration.

Registration Fees:

• ₹1000 per team (initial).
• Additional ₹1500 per team for those qualifying for negotiation rounds.

Important Dates:

• Registrations Open: 6 March 2026
• Registration Deadline: 25 March 2026
• Draft Submission Deadline: 4 April 2026
• Qualifying Teams Announced: 7 April 2026
• Final Oral Rounds: 11–12 April 2026

Awards & Recognition:

Total prize pool: ₹42,500

• Certificates of Participation: All registered participants.
• Certificates of Appreciation: Teams qualifying for negotiation rounds.
• Certificates of Merit: Winners, Runners-Up, Second Runners-Up, Best Negotiator, Best Draft.
