Delhi High Court seeks response on CBI challenge to discharge of Kejriwal, Sisodia in Liquor Policy Case

The Delhi High Court has issued notice on a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the discharge of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in a case linked to the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy.

The petition contests an earlier order of a trial court that had discharged Kejriwal, Sisodia, and certain other accused persons from the corruption case. The CBI has argued that the trial court did not properly examine the evidence collected during the investigation and therefore erred in granting the discharge.

While considering the agency’s plea, the High Court directed the respondents to file their replies and listed the matter for further hearing. The case arises from allegations of irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy for the year 2021–22.

The policy had later been withdrawn following controversy and investigations initiated by central agencies. Separate proceedings connected to the matter are also being pursued by the Enforcement Directorate under provisions relating to money laundering.

With the issuance of notice, the High Court has begun examining whether the trial court’s order discharging the accused was legally sustainable or whether the case requires further consideration before a trial court.
