Series of Competitions by The University Debating and Literary Club at Aligarh Muslim University

About the University

Aligarh Muslim University is an Indian public central university. It was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875.

The College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. The main campus of AMU is located in the city of Aligarh.

About CEC

The Cultural Education Centre (CEC) is a premier institution of AMU dedicated to promoting cultural and educational activities on campus and within the wider community. Interdisciplinary in scope, it serves as a platform for dialogue, creative exchange, and skill development in art, literature, performing arts, and education.

Functioning as the cultural hub of student activities since the early 1950s, the Centre was initially housed in Sir Syed Hall alongside various university offices. In 1958, during the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Col. Bashir Husain Zaidi, a new building for the General Education Centre was conceived with funding from the Ford Foundation, USA.

The building, designed by renowned architect Joseph Stein, was constructed between 1959 and 1962 and is now known as Kennedy Hall. The project was supervised by the then University Engineer, Abdul Jabbar Khan, and the interiors were furnished by Pen Workers of Bombay.
