Nagpur: The state legislature referred the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill 2024 to a 21-member joint panel for review and scrutiny. CM Devendra Fadnavis said BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule will chair the panel, which is tasked with submitting its report in the next assembly session scheduled for Feb-March next year in Mumbai. He informed the lower house that the council had already approved dispatching representatives to participate in the review process.
The Bill, which seeks to address the rising influence of Naxalism in urban areas, was framed based on recommendations of Maharashtra Anti-Naxal Squad. Fadnavis highlighted its importance in dismantling Naxal hideouts and curbing activities of their frontal organisations.
Assembly members on the panel include Nana Patole, Jayant Patil, Randhir Sawarkar, Rajesh Padvi, Deepak Kesarkar, Ramesh Bornare, Manoj Kayande, Magesh Kudalkar, Bhaskar Jadhav, Anil Patil, Sunil Shirole, Manisha Chaudhary, and Tushar Rathod.
Council members include Ambadas Danve, Uma Khare, Vikram Kale, Manisha Kayande, Satej Patil, and Amit Borkhe.
