The Bar Council of India (BCI) has granted approval to Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna to start a three-year LL.B. course from the 2025-26 academic session. With this, CNLU becomes the fourth National Law University to launch the three-year programme after NLSIU Bengaluru, NLU Odisha, and DSNLU Visakhapatnam.
CNLU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faizan Mustafa and Chancellor Justice Vipul M Pancholi (Chief Justice of Patna High Court) welcomed the move, noting that it fulfils a long-standing demand of graduates in Bihar and other states.
The university had approved the idea in 2022, but BCI took time to clear the proposal. The VC assured that the new course will match the academic rigour of the five-year programme. However, due to limited hostel facilities, CNLU will not initially be able to provide accommodation to the new LL.B. batch, though it has sought additional land from the state government for hostel expansion.
