Biden, in his State of the Union address, expressed his aspiration to see through his new economic plans to rebuild America. However, it is not going to be an easy task. America was built on slavery, the roots of which can still be seen today.
Biden took to his Twitter handle and shared his thoughts. This is what he mentioned:
“My economic plan is a blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America. It’s for you.”
Carrying on from where we left off in the last episode.
America still faces racism rampantly and the situation is only getting worse. In addition to racism, America is faced with serious problems such as crime, unemployment, drug addiction, welfare dependency, and poor school performance.
Moreover, the rift between black and white Americans is widening as we speak.
Loury, in his article, mentions:
“There is a widening rift between blacks and whites who are not poor–a conflict of visions about the continuing importance of race in American life. Most blacks see race as still of fundamental importance; most whites (and also many Asians and Hispanics) think blacks are obsessed with race. “
“It is against this backdrop that statistical analyses of the status of African Americans are being conducted. Assessing how much or how little progress has taken place for blacks, and why, is one of the most fiercely contested empirical issues in the social sciences,” he further writes.
Loury also talks about how taking affirmative actions will not help America. He writes,
“Affirmative action, however prudently employed, can never be anything more than a marginal instrument for addressing the nation’s unfinished racial business. But the proponents of colorblind policy who bill their crusade against “preferences” as the Second Coming of the civil rights movement display a ludicrous sense of misplaced priorities.”
What is bottom line?
Joe Biden must face the harsh reality of America today. If he wishes to bring about a positive economic reform in the country, he has to first work on racism.
