Focus of budget should be getting country out of economic morass: MP Kapil Sibal in Rajya Sabha
Kapil Sibal, independent member from UP, says that the primary focus of the budget should have been to get the country out of an economic morass, which it did not focus on. He says that there are no roadmaps for progress on multiple fronts, such as jobs.
Every budget is, ultimately, a political statement, he says. And the fact of the matter is that you are strapped, unless you get two people on board your government will not survive, so your allocations should be tailor-made to the demands of these people, he says, adding that there is nothing wrong with that.
Who is addressing the issue of jobs which will be lost due to AI, he asks. This country needs minds to look at issues, not at politics, he says, adding that the nation comes first.
The education system needs to revitalised and restructured he says, to bring in skills in education, he says.
Mr. Sibal said that the 15th Finance Commission said that 41% of the Centre’s funds should go to the States, but that they are now getting 32%. He also highights that the government cannot keep track on spendings on sectors like education and health from the Centre.
