Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling lessons to Team India's support staff

NEW DELHI: The support staff in international cricket play a crucial role in the team’s overall performance. Their responsibilities go beyond the playing field, encompassing areas like strategy, physical and mental well-being, and operational logistics.
Cricketers’ support for their support staff is crucial in fostering a positive and productive team environment. When players collaborate effectively with their coaches, analysts, and other personnel, it strengthens the team’s performance and morale.

R Ashwin announces retirement from Test cricket

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday after the third Test between India and Australia for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended in a draw at The Gabba in Brisbane, has consistently displayed his appreciation and support for the support staff, both through his words and actions.
Known for his thoughtfulness and analytical approach to the game, Ashwin has often acknowledged the significant contributions of the team behind the scenes.
On Thursday, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared a video on their official X handle of Ashwin supporting Team India‘s support staff as they bowl in indoor nets in Australia.
The fun video also has India bowlers Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna looking on as the support staff try their hand at bowling invoking laughter from all India cricketers.
The video has the caption: “The countless battles on the field are memorable. But it’s also moments like these that Ashwin will reminisce from his international career” and it shows the close bond between Ashwin and the support staff as he tells them from where to bowl.

Throughout his career, Ashwin’s thoughtful approach and willingness to share credit with the support staff reflected his appreciation of their indispensable role in cricket. His actions set an example for other cricketers, underscoring the importance of teamwork on and off the field.
In modern cricket, the role of the support staff has become as critical as the players themselves, contributing significantly to a team’s success.
