BHOPAL: A 13-year-old girl, Chahat, sustained severe injuries when her hair got caught in a hand-operated swing at a fair near the Bagraj Mata temple in Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 3 pm when the girl’s hair became entangled in the rapidly moving swing, tearing off part of her scalp. She was rushed to the district hospital in Tikamgarh and later referred to a private hospital in Jhansi, where doctors performed surgery to reattach her hair and stitched her head with 42 stitches. Her condition was stabilised.
The swing operator, Jaswant, also fractured his leg while trying to stop the ride and was also taken to Jhansi for treatment. Chahat’s father, Ramkumar Sen, expressed concern about the lack of proper safety measures at the fairground.
Doctors confirmed the injuries were caused by the rapid motion of the swing and the shock of the accident. Police are investigating the incident and will take action once the family provides their statements. The fair was held as part of a religious event at the Bagraj Mata temple, which included a Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, Ramlila, and a community feast.
