Youngest Chess world Champion D Gukesh has his promise made to coach Grzegorz Gajewski and went bungee jumping in Singapore after his historic victory against Ding Liren in the final match of the Chess World Championship.

The 18-year-old had promised to conquer his fear of heights if he became the world champion. On Monday, he posted a video of him doing bungee jumping in Singapore.

The champion had earlier narrated the hilarious story of how Grzegorz Gajewski coaxed him into the high-adrenaline activity.

Speaking after his world championship victory, Gukesh had said that he was looking forward to bungee jumping despite his fear of heights.

“I think on the penultimate rest day, we went for a walk on the beach and Gaje (Gajewski) looked at these two guys bungee jumping. I mean I’m personally quite scared of heights. “He said to me, ‘If you win the world championship, I’m going to do bungee jumping.’” Gukesh had said after winning the world championship.”I don’t know why I said this but I said, I’ll also join you. So now I am looking forward to jumping off bridge,” he had further added.

Gukesh arrives home to a grand welcome

Gukesh arrived home on Monday to a rousing reception at the airport in Chennai, days after he became the youngest player to win the coveted honour.

A large number of fans thronged the airport to receive the young chess champion, even as the state government officials, led by Additional Chief Secretary Dr Atulya Misra, welcomed Gukesh.

Gukesh arrived from Singapore.

The Tamil Nadu government had announced a cash reward of Rs five crore to Gukesh.
