Thane: A couple was safely rescued from a car lift of a Pokhran-1 high-rise complex after it suddenly developed a snag midway and got stuck for nearly 30 minutes. No one was injured in the incident, and the cause of the malfunction will be investigated, officials informed.
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday when the couple, along with their car, were present in the elevator dedicated to servicing the three-tier car parking area of the multi-storeyed Asavari building in the Shastri Nagar area of Thane, Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell, informed. The elevator suddenly got stuck around the second floor, following which the couple raised an alarm, alerting the local security personnel.
“The incident was reported to us around 10:45 pm, following which a team rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped couple by 11 pm. Investigations will be carried out to determine the cause of the malfunction that left the elevator stuck midway. No one was injured in the mishap,” said Tadvi.
Meanwhile, residents and activists have started questioning the spate of mishaps involving lifts in the city and called for more rigorous checks and safety measures to avoid recurrence. Last month, a lift of a high-rise in the vicinity collapsed, injuring two residents.
