In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actress opened up about why she didn’t cast herself in the film. She said, “ As I was doing something for the first time, I wanted to stay 100% focused on it. It’s not that we will never do, if we find something that we (she and husband Ali Fazal) like and where it makes sense for us to be a part of it as actors, we’ll do it. But it’s not that we will only make films for ourselves or we have made a production house for our careers. Although there’s nothing wrong with that, you know, in any case God only helps those who help themselves. Being outsiders we are trying to create things that we want to see done. Sometimes the person that you are and what you’re watching, and what you’re doing doesn’t connect but, somewhere we’d like to marry that.”.
Girls Will Be Girls is written and directed by Shuchi Talati and stars Preeti Panigrahi, Kesav Binoy Kiron and Kani Kusruti who was last seen in Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light. The film has now been nominated for multiple Golden Globes, but lost out to Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan’s Laapaata Ladies as India’s official entry for Oscars.
