NEW DELHI: A Delhi court will review a defamation complaint filed by former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj.
The complaint stems from statements Swaraj made during a televised interview on October 5, 2023.
Jain alleges Swaraj made false claims about him during the interview, which was broadcast widely. He claims Swaraj said, “3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence.” Jain contends these statements damaged his reputation and were politically motivated.
The complaint further states Swaraj called Jain “Corrupt” and “Fraud” and made other damaging remarks.
Jain asserts these comments harmed his personal and professional life, impacting his standing as a public figure and within his community.
He claims the allegations have affected him as “husband, father, brother, friend and as a common of the society, apart from scarring his otherwise unblemish political reputation.” The Rouse Avenue Court is scheduled to address the complaint today.
