New Delhi: Delhi Congress on Saturday announced that all contractual and ad hoc teachers in Delhi’s state-run and municipal schools would be regularised if it forms govt in the capital after the assembly polls in Feb next year.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav said he came across a large number of ad hoc teachers during the month-long Nyay Yatra who were suffering a lot. “(Former chief minister) Arvind Kejriwal promised to regularise the ad hoc teachers, but he only kept them on tenterhooks. Congress govt will accord top priority to the regularisation of ad hoc teachers,” Yadav said, as Congress’ Nyay Yatra concluded after covering all 70 assembly constituencies since its launch on Nov 8.
Yadav claimed that the “unprecedented” public support for the yatra was a “clear” message that people wanted Congress back in power to run a democratic govt in the city.
The Delhi Congress Chief said he walked 650 km during the yatra and talked to a cross-section of people. “I got to understand the trials and difficulties of the people up-close, particularly the suffering of the poor and the marginalised. It gave a clear picture of the issues that needed to be addressed on a priority basis,” the former Badli MLA said.
Yadav asked Congress workers to maintain the momentum generated by the Nyay Yatra.
While Congress expected the yatra to generate a similar buzz that was associated with MP Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, senior party leadership stayed away from the event. At the launch of the event, the Delhi Congress announced that Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, and other senior functionaries would join the yatra on different dates, but it remained largely localised. Many former Delhi MLAs and ministers too stayed away from the yatra. Congress failed to win a single seat in the last two Delhi polls.
