Mumbai: “An analysis of the election results has made it clear, ‘Ek hain toh safe hai’,” said Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday.
In his address to BJP legislators at the Vidhan Bhavan central hall after being unanimously elected as the legislative party leader, Fadnavis said after the setback in the Lok Sabha elections, the series of election victories resumed with the Haryana election results and the historic win in Maharashtra.
“I assure all communities that this govt will work 24×7 to fulfil the aspirations of the people,” said Fadnavis. He said responsibilities went up with this stupendous mandate towards “our Ladki Bahin, Shetkari, youth, Dalits, underprivileged and Adivasis. Our prime duty is to ensure the fulfilment of promises and assurances and to take Maharashtra forward and to make it number one, for which we will have to be constantly working”.
Fadnavis said Prime Minister Narendra Modi made him chief minister three times, which included the time when he was CM for only 72 hours, but “technically I was CM”.
“In 2019, we got the people’s mandate, but it was snatched away, and a kind of treachery was done. The first 2.5 years of the MVA govt we were harassed, yet not a single MLA left us, and in 2022 we formed the govt and this time we’ve got a tremendous majority,” said Fadnavis.
Cautioning MLAs against expectations, he said the govt has to fulfil the expectations of the people and “since it is a Mahayuti govt, we will have to take our friends along. When there is such a huge mandate, it is not possible to fulfil every person’s aspiration. But we have come into politics keeping a larger goal, a bigger picture in mind, not for personal glory or for posts, and so I expect that in the coming days some wishes may be fulfilled while some may not be fulfilled, but we will work together and show our strength,” he said.
