Punjab Kings have had a relatively modest record in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having only qualified for the play-off stage twice in their 17 seasons and failing to secure the coveted trophy. However, former Punjab Kings all-rounder Irfan Pathan has shed light on how co-owner Preity Zinta, who has a strong emotional attachment to the team and is often seen passionately supporting them at stadiums, deals with the team’s defeats in the IPL.
During an interaction with Star Sports, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), Pathan expressed his admiration for Zinta, stating, “She is an exceptional woman who was deeply involved with the team. She would become quite distressed when the team faced defeat. However, she possesses the ability to control her emotions.”
Pathan further explained that Zinta’s experience as a highly accomplished and successful actor has provided her with valuable insights. She understands that achieving success is not an easy task and that every movie cannot be a blockbuster hit. Similarly, she recognizes that winning every match in the IPL is not always possible. Pathan, who himself had a successful career as an Indian all-rounder, added, “She knows the challenges and realities of the game.”
Additionally, Pathan disclosed that Zinta did express some disappointment to the team after a few losses. He shared, “During my three-year tenure with the team, we played over 40 matches, and I recall only two or three instances where she displayed disappointment. Otherwise, she remains composed and composed.”
Pathan also revealed a heartwarming gesture from Zinta, highlighting her affection for the players. He recounted an incident after a remarkable victory against the Chennai Super Kings in South Africa, where Zinta personally prepared paranthas (a popular Indian dish) for the entire Punjab Kings squad.
In more recent news, Punjab Kings achieved a significant milestone by successfully chasing down the highest ever total in a T20 match. Led by Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh, PBKS secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. This victory undoubtedly brought joy to Preity Zinta and the entire team.
