In the wake of the conflict, a number of exams, including university entrance exams, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) UGET 2025 and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) CA exams, have also been postponed.
Punjab
On Sunday, Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains said that educational institutions in the state would reopen on Monday. In a post on X, he wrote, “All educational institutions — schools, colleges, and universities — across Punjab shall reopen from tomorrow. Regular classes and examinations will proceed as per the academic schedule. We are immensely proud of our brave armed forces.”

Initially, schools were closed in six border districts, including Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. As per the advisory accessed by HT, schools in the Ferozepur district will remain shut.
All government, private and aided schools, colleges and universities in Punjab’s Sangrur and Barnala districts are also closed on May 12. Additionally, teachers can conduct online classes from their homes. Principals in Bathinda have been instructed to postpone any exams that are planned for Monday.
West Bengal
Following an urgent appeal by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, many private schools in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal have preponed summer vacations and closed from May 9.
The Indian Express reported that schools such as Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, and St. Xavier’s Institution, Panihati have been closed to prioritise students’ safety.
According to Sunita Sen, Principal of Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, “Our plan was to close for the summer starting next week, but we are complying with the Chief Minister’s request.”
Joyoti Chaudhuri, principal of Delhi Public School Ruby Park, added, “We are also closing from May 9 and will reopen on June 9. It is important to follow the government’s appeal in times like these.”
Jammu and Kashmir
Schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir have remained shut since May 7, with several private schools now offering online lectures. However, government schools have not yet started online learning. In a post on X, Education Minister Sakina Itoo stated that helplines have been established to assist local students returning home as well as students from other states who are currently in J&K. “The government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students,” she said.

Rajasthan
All government and private schools in border districts, including Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Barmer, have been closed due to security concerns. The district administration of Jaisalmer has announced that schools will stay closed until further notice. According to a report by The Indian Express dated May 10, District Collector Pratap Singh Nathawat stated, “All schools in Jaisalmer will remain closed until further orders.”
Delhi
According to the Directorate of Education’s holiday calendar, all schools in the national capital will be closed on May 12 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
