Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met India’s medallists from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and congratulated them on their impressive campaign, which saw the country return with 39 medals, including 13 gold.
PM Modi hosted the athletes at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and later shared pictures and a video from the interaction on social media.
“Delighted to host our outstanding medal winners from the Commonwealth Games 2026 at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Heard about their experiences from the Games. Each one of them has made our nation proud through their exceptional performances. Their success will motivate many youngsters,” Modi posted on X.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was also present during the meeting as the Prime Minister interacted with the athletes and congratulated them for their performances.
Among those who met Modi was boxer Sakshi Chaudhary, who won gold in the women’s 51kg category. India’s boxing contingent enjoyed a particularly successful campaign in Glasgow, returning with a record 10 medals, including seven gold.
Sakshi said the athletes were proud to meet the Prime Minister.
“Our honourable PM sir has welcomed all the medallists from the Commonwealth Games and we are feeling very proud of this. We have really enjoyed meeting him, he is very humble,” she said.
During his interaction with the athletes, PM Modi also delivered a short message encouraging Indians to continue supporting the country’s sportspersons.
“Jo khelega, woh khilega. Always cheer for Bharat,” the Prime Minister said.
India’s 39-medal haul capped a strong campaign in Glasgow, with athletes across multiple disciplines contributing to the tally. The performance also provided further encouragement to the country’s growing sporting ecosystem ahead of major international competitions.
