    About the Andhra Pradesh High Court Law Clerk Recruitment 2026

    The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has invited applications from eligible candidates for appointment to the post of Law Clerk on a contract basis.

    The recruitment is being conducted in accordance with the “Guidelines for the Appointment of Law Clerks on Contract to the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati”, issued through Gazette Notification No. 88 dated July 18, 2020, along with subsequent amendments.

    The number of vacancies may increase or decrease depending upon administrative exigencies.

    Nature of Appointment

    The appointment will be made on a contract basis to assist the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

    A Law Clerk will not be treated or deemed to be an employee of the High Court Service, Judicial Service or Judicial Ministerial Service.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Candidates must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:

    • The candidate must have obtained a Degree in Law from a recognised university.
    • The candidate must have completed either a five-year regular law course after 10+2 or a three-year regular law degree after completing graduation in any stream.
    • Candidates studying in the fifth year of a five-year integrated law course or the third year of a three-year law course are also eligible to apply.
    • Final-year candidates must submit proof of acquiring the required law qualification before taking up the assignment as a Law Clerk.
    • The candidate must have passed the Degree in Law within two years immediately preceding the date of the recruitment notification.
    • The candidate must not be pursuing any other regular course of study, profession or occupation that may require them to remain away from their place of work during the period of engagement.
    • The candidate must be a citizen of India.

    Eligibility of Enrolled Advocates

    A candidate enrolled as an advocate may apply for the position. However, if selected, the candidate must suspend legal practice before joining as a Law Clerk and keep the suspension effective throughout the period of engagement.

    Age Limit

    The candidate must not have attained the age of 30 years as on July 1 preceding the last date fixed for submission of applications.

    Honorarium

    Selected Law Clerks will receive a consolidated honorarium of Rs. 35,000 per month.

    Law Clerks will not be entitled to any other allowance or employment-related benefit.

    Duration of the Assignment

    The engagement will ordinarily be for a period of one year from the date of assignment.

    Subject to the approval of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, the assignment may be extended for a further period. However, the total period of assignment cannot exceed four years.

    The assignment may be discontinued before the completion of one year, without notice, if the services of the Law Clerk are found to be unsatisfactory.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Law Clerks will primarily assist the Hon’ble Judges in their judicial and academic work. Their duties may include:

    • Reading case files and preparing case summaries and notes.
    • Preparing a chronology of relevant dates and events.
    • Identifying facts, legal issues and questions requiring consideration.
    • Conducting research on judgments, case laws and legal articles.
    • Preparing research material for judicial orders.
    • Preparing study material for conferences, seminars and meetings.

    Selection Process

    Eligible candidates will be required to appear for a viva voce at Amaravati at their own expense. The date, time and venue of the viva voce will be communicated separately.

    The High Court may conduct the viva voce physically or through online mode, depending upon the prevailing circumstances and requirements.

    The selection will be made on merit by the Hon’ble Chief Justice through a committee nominated by the Hon’ble Chief Justice. The final list of selected candidates will be subject to the approval of the Hon’ble Chief Justice.

    Leave Entitlement

    Law Clerks will be entitled to one day of casual leave for every completed month of assignment.

    Casual leave may be availed with prior intimation to the Hon’ble Judge to whom the Law Clerk is attached. Where a Law Clerk exceeds the permissible limit of 12 days of casual leave in a calendar year, proportionate deductions may be made from the monthly honorarium.

    Restriction on Employment and Legal Practice

    During the period of engagement, a Law Clerk cannot undertake any other employment or engagement, whether on a full-time or part-time basis.

    Law Clerks may, with the permission of the competent authority, be allowed to appear in examinations conducted for recruitment to the post of Junior Civil Judge.

    They may also be permitted to revoke the suspension of legal practice for appearing in the All India Bar Examination. After the examination, they must submit a certificate confirming the re-suspension of practice.

    • Details of enrolment with a Bar Council, wherever applicable.
    • Documents relating to any technical qualification or experience claimed by the candidate.
    • Any other relevant supporting documents.
